When Eddie O Meara was elected a member of Tipperary SR Co. Council in 1999 he was the first Mullinahone person to be so elected in 71 years, since 1928. That was far too long.

In fact no Mullinahone person had been nominated to stand for the Co. Council since 1950 when Denis O Brien, RIP, had contested the election on behalf of Fine Gael but had failed to be elected.
