Water, Water Everywhere

E-mail Print PDF

“Water, water everywhere nor any drop to drink” wrote the poet Samuel Coleridge a couple of hundred years ago. He could have been talking about Mullinahone parish in 2008. We have plenty of flooded fields in the area and yet in the middle of it all we have no water from the local authority mains supply in some areas.

Last week two delegations from the area in Ballydonnell and Jamestown met with local authority officials in Clonmel re their lack of water even in the present conditions. Present also at the meeting were Jimmy O Brien MCC and Tom Hayes TD. These specific problems were made clear to both officials and public representatives. The officials promised to report back to the public representatives on these problems in a week. We await developments. Meanwhile another branch of the water service is modernising meters in one of the areas. Are the new meters going to measure the fresh air in the water pipes?

Flash floods caused by heavy rain are also causing concern in the Square as pipes and gulleys seem to back up very quickly. Perhaps extra water has been diverted into these pipes further away from the river and this is causing problems. No doubt we may have some of the answers shortly.
