Saturday was a wonderful day in the lives of 26 boys and girls attending our local primary schools. After many months of careful preparation the boys and girls received their First Holy Communion at a special Mass celebrated in St Michael’s Church.
The special Mass was said by parish priest Fr John McGrath. The new liturgy programme “In memory of me” was launched in the parish by Sister Essie Hayes. This programme involved family, school and parish. Credit to the teachers of second class in each of the three primary schools in the parish, Kilvemnon, Mullinahone and Poulacapple and to all the staffs in the respective schools. A special word of Ms Mairead O Halloran who prepared the choir in conjunction with organist Kevin Hickey.
The church itself looked wonderful on the big day both inside and out. Ms Rose Byrne provided a most imaginative floral display inside the church and Ivan O Sullivan, Brendan O Gorman, Tommy O Connor and Dick Maher attended to the environs. Of course the Man above also contributed to the happiness of the occasion by sending a grand fine day.
Those who received their First Holy communion were from Scoil Mhuire, Kilvemnon: Tara Gayson, Katie Madigan and Naeema Paget – Trudgill from St Oliver Plunkett’s school, Poulacapple: Keith Byrne, Margaret Foely, Andrew Gleeson, Kate Gleeson, Christopher McDonald, Maggie Willand, Brid Roantree and Ciara Hogan and from St. Michael’s NS: Katelyn Brett, Jordan Denn, Sean Fitzgerald, Baylea Grace, Paul Houlihan, Dylan St John, Rebecca Webster, John Woodside, Daniel Butler O Neill, Oisin Drennan, Emily Gahan, Emer Guiry, Ryan Sawyer, Jack Walsh and David Whelan.
To each of the 26 girls and boys we extend our congratulations and best wishes. No doubt each and everyone had a very special day.
