Last Sunday was an important day in South Tipperary GAA circles. In the morning all clubs in the division attended a commemoration in Churchtown
Cemetery, near Carrick On Suir, where the first president of the GAA, Maurice Davin is buried.
An oration was given by Peter Quinn, former president of the GAA. The Mullinahone banner was displayed at the commemoration in the ceremony as was held by club chairman Tommy O Sullivan and club supporter Tony Nolan.
Tony’s father the late Mick Nolan was a member of the Tipperary football panel in Croke Park on Blood Sunday, 1920. The South Board GAA convention tool place in Clonmel on Sunday evening. This event brought the South Tipp centenary year to an end.
To mark the year the chairman, secretary and treasurer of each club in the division were presented with medallions as having served during that year.
In Mullinahone the recipients were Tommy O Sullivan, Oliver Vaughan and Albert Curran.
Three other Mullinahone men were also presented with medallions by the South Board in recognition of services rendered to the South Board during centenary year. The trio were Martin Cody, Ricky Sheehan and Dick Egan. At the convention Dick Egan was also re-elected as vice-chairman of the Board.
