Our senior hurlers had their first competitive outing of 2008 on Saturday afternoon last in Boherlahan 2-14 to Mullinahone 1-11. The game was the opening one of the county senior hurling league.
We were short both Eoin Kelly and Paul Curran, because of the Tipp v Galway league game and a number of other regulars, so a very experimental side took the field.
The team lined out the following:Seanie Foxe, Stephen O Brien, AJ Cronin, Shane O Brien, Edwin O Meara, Ned Tobin, James Connolly, Eddie Carey, Philip O Shea, Brian O Meara, Alan Curran, Aidan Maher, Pat Croke, Michael Luttrell, Kevin Walzer.
Subs used: Donal Cody, Joseph O Meara and Alan Walsh.
Four of those who played on Saturday last had played major parts in the county finals of 2002.
With a management team and selectors now in place it is hoped that there will be a steady improvement in the displays of our senior team with at least some new talent making its mark.
On the football front the draw was made over the weekend for the quarter finals of the South Tipp U-21 B football championship. We have been drawn to play our neighbours and old rivals Ballingarry. This game has been fixed for Fethard on Saturday next.Over the last number of years at minor level, games between Mullinahone and Ballingarry have been very delicately balanced with little between the sides. Saturday’s clash should not be much different so we hope for the best.
In the first round we defeated Cahir. They have battled their way back into the quarter finals through the losers group. Our best wishes to Sean O Meara and his men on Saturday.Congrats to Olivia and Sean on the birth of their baby boy over the weekend.
The under 10’s had a most enjoyable outing to Galway over the weekend taking in the Tipp v Galway hurling game.
The loudest cheer of the afternoon must have come from our lads over the equalising point against the storm in injury time.
