his Parish and his boxing club proud when he lined out on international duty for Ireland against England in an international boxing tournament. Earlier this year, young Jack hit the headlines when he won the Irish Boy 2 under 57kg Championship. This was the second year in a row Jack won an Irish Title. One of the rewards was recognition by the Irish Boxing Selectors of Jack’s skill when he was chosen on the irish team to box in Dungarvan agianst an English selection.
When Jack ducked under the ropes wearing the green singlet of Ireland, he was supported by a huge crowd of Mullinahone supporters and by supporters from his club Slievenamon B.C. The fight itself was a thrilling contest. It brought the crowd to their feet throughout the bout. Jack’s opponent was Ben Ako from Liverpool. Both lads gave everything but alas victory went to the Liverpool lad.
Many of Jack’s supporters disagreed with the controversial decision. No doubt, Jack like the Munster Rugby Team, will learn from his narrow defeat. Both boys received a standing ovation from the crowd who regarded this contest as the bout of the tournament.
Well done Jack and hard luck on not making a winning start to your international career. Next season, Jack will be going for his third national title in a row. The day after his school hurling team Scoil Ruain Killenaule to a munster “first year” hurling championship.
