John Vaughans 80th birthday

Birthday

Congratulations to John Vaughan of Grove on his 80th birthday. Many will be surprised to learn that the ever popular John has reached the great milestone of four score years. For many years John has had a highly visible presence in the local community. He was a stalwart of the local community council.

He was a pillar of the local church and farming circles. But it was in the ranks of the GAA that John will be remembered for the major part he played in helping the CJ Kickham club with its own sports field. He has spent a number of decades representing Mullinahone at County Board levels of power.

Though rooted in the tradition of GAA John was one of the grassroots who fought to open Croke Park to all sports. He was a very proud man when this came to pass in 2007 when Ireland played France there in rugby and John was present there. John was always one to have a colourful phrase or two when it came to describing some event. John celebrated his 80th at a special surprise party in Raheen House, Clonmel, in the company of family and friends on Friday night last.
