Paddy Was an Honourable Man

E-mail Print PDF

There was a genuine feeling of sadness among the local community when news broke last week of the unexpected death of Paddy Ryan of Kyleadoher. Paddy and his wife Rena had been out and about the previous day. His death took place at his home.Paddy was within days of his 86th birthday.

He and Rena ere due to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of their wedding (sixty years) next August. Their weding photo which was one of the items displayed to tell the story of Paddy’s life told us of his devotion to family as well as farming. Displayed also was a copy of “Mullinahone Co-Op the first one hundread years”. Within its pages we can trace the life of Paddy Ryan and farming at Kyleadoher.

In the 1960’s, Paddy was elected a member of the committee of Mullinahone Co- Op and was reelected to a number of terms, Paddy’s father, the late Joe Ryan joined Mullinahone Co-Op in 1927, when the creamery in the village closed. Paddy followed his father into the Co-Op and was a very loyal member.

Paddy was also a member of the Pioneers until very recent years until he began to take an odd glass of ine for medicinal purposes. Paddy then took down his pin though many would argue that he need not have done so and should’t have, however paddy was an honourable man and felt that the pin would to come down.

His remains reposed in Bretts Funeral Home and were then conveyed to St. Michael’s church where they were received by Fr. McGrath P.P who also said Paddy’s funeral Mass on the following day. Readers at the Mass were Paddys son Ray who read as Gaeilge.

The offertory gifts were presented by his two grandsons Padraig Ryan and Derek Ryan. Prayers of the faithful were recited by his extended family Sr Clare (sister in law) Maureen Ryan (daughter in law) Irene Ryan (daughter) and granddaughters Clodagh Ryan and Ciara Moriarty.

After Mass Paddy was interred in the adjoining Churchyard in the family plot. Large congregations attended the reposed, the removing of the remains and requiem Mass and burial, testament to the esteem in which the late Paddy Ryan was held in the community.

Paddy is survived by his wife Rena and his sons Joe Ryan (Kyleadoher), Noel Ryan (Kilkenny) and Ray Ryan (Cork City) as well as daughters Ursula Moriarty (Cork City) and Irene Ryan (Cork City). He is also survived by his sister Kathleen Ryan (Callan) as well as by his grandchildren and the members of his extended family including his in laws.

To all we ecxtend our sympathy on the death of man that will always be associated with Kyleadoher.

May the soul of Paddy Ryan rest in peace.
