Next Saturday, August 30th, it will be a big day in the life of our underage GAA club.
Our club will be running major underage inter-county club tournaments at under 12 and under 10 level.
This hurling tournament has been going on now for a number of years. This years tournament is bigger than ever with extra teams being invited in. three teams from Ulster will be staying in the parish for the 2008 event.
Expected guests this year will be Caslteblaney, Co. Monaghan and from across the boarder will come St John’s from Belfast and Limavaddy, Co Derry. The under 10 section will involve local teams from the neighbouring parishes. Many of the teams who have supported the competition over the years will be returning again this year such as Galway, Clare, Wexford, Waterford and Kilkenny.
The day’s events will start with a parade of the competing teams through the village to the local sports field from the Forge Meadow. The Moycarkey Pipe Band will lead the teams in the parade through the village. Games will go on all day and will be co-ordinated from the local sports field.
The two competitions will take the format of round robin league sections with knockout play offs in semi-finals etc. To further add to the interest Tipp FM will be broadcasting from the sports field on Saturday with both the Fran Curry Show and the Paddy Finnucane Sports Show coming direct from Mullinahone. So, see local radio in action and have requests played for your friends within and outside the county.
The finals of the competitions are due to take place between 6pm and 7pm with the President of GAA Nicky Brennan, due to present the prizes to the winners. To make the event safe for everybody stewards and helpers are required on the day. Anybody who can afford to donate a couple of hours please give your names to the juvenile club officers Johnny Kennedy, Eddie McCarthy or Rita Curran or any other club officer.
Games will commence at 11am. Members of the Tipperary senior hurling team will be present between 1pm and 3pm with the Munster and National League trophies.
Do come along and enjoy what promises to be a great day. Just as important tell your friends about what is happening. Here’s hoping for a fine day. So for the long range forecast it looks favourable.
