HURLING has dominated locally in recent weeks.
Last week the Munster hurling final and the trip to Cork took centre stage.
This week it is the post mortem and Sunday’s county championship game in Semple Stadium against J.K. Brackens of Templemore.

Local support was good for the Munster final but certainly not up to the support which Tipp enjoyed in the heady days of the late 80s and the 90s.
The final is no longer a novelty. The demand for tickets is certainly less than it used to be.
Croke Park is unlikely to be taxed on July 31 for the All-Ireland quarter-final.
The local club’s progress could have a big bearing on interest.
Veterans who travelled to Cork on Sunday found little had changed. There was plenty of red to be seen on the Tipp terrace.

The new seating arrangements in the open stand came in for criticism, along with team management and the referee.
Things looked black at half time but a good second half display restored hope.
The battle may have been lost but the war is not over yet. The locals did well. The display of Paul Kelly justified his man of the match award.

Looking forward to Sunday we hope that our own team will be inspired by the county players but will not relax and expect to be carried by them.
Supporters also hope that we will learn from Tipp management and place our strong players in important positions.
Like Tipp, we too can’t afford another loss or the dream will be over.
We certainly can’t afford to leave our destiny in the hands of others and that’s what we will be doing if Brackens win.

Newsletter - For three years the parish newsletter has been available each weekend. Tastefully and artistically presented by editor Paul Meehan of Carrick Street, the newsletter has been much admired.
To enable this service to continue at the previous high level, parishioners should remember that it is their efforts which will enliven the newsletter.
News items, notices and photos should be lodged in Meehan’s Shop before 6pm on Thursday. Those involved with clubs should see to it that accounts of games and prizes won are handed in.

Ladies football - The next under-10 training is at 11am on July 16. They will continue to train for July. The last training session is on July 30.
There will be no training in August.

Table Quiz - A table quiz in aid of the ladies football club and the juvenile GAA Club will take place on Thursday July 30 in Quirke’s Lounge at 9pm. Your support on the night would be much appreciated.

Collection - The Summer collection for the priests of the archdiocese will be taken up next weekend.
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament continues in St Michael’s Church each Thursday from 7pm to 9pm.

Gun club - The club held a meeting on Monday. A number of important issues were discussed.
Pheasants and ducks have been placed in rearing areas. Some 400 pheasants and 120 mallard ducks have been bought by the club in 2005.
A number of members are rearing birds at their homes. It is vital that vermin control is maintained so that mink are not allowed to strike.
Anyone with spare time should try to help farmers with crop protection during the dry spell. Crows are causing damage as they seek out the moisture in the unripe grain. Tillage farmers would appreciated any help.

Under-12 - Hard luck on the under-12 hurlers who began their campaign with a loss to Kilsheelan in Kilcash.
minor hurling - Because they won the South Tipp under-18 B championship last year and were only narrowly beaten in the county final. Mullinahone have been graded A in minor hurling this year.
The campaign began in Clonmel on Friday and the improved standard was noticed as we played Moyle Rovers.
They began at less than full strength due to the late arrival of some players but they still started well with a number of points from scorer-in-chief Donal Cody.

However Moyle Rovers hit back with a goal. This goal was to prove the difference all through the game.
At half time the score was Rovers 1-6, Mullinahone 0-5. In the second half the scoring rate dropped and the final score was Rovers 1-10 to 0-9.

Manager is Martin Cody and his selectors are Jackie Bolger and Timmy O’Connor. The trio will now have to devise a plan to get the campaign back on track for the weekend as they face Ballingarry.
Last weekend Ballingarry were narrow winners over St Patrick’s. In the third game in the championship Swan had a big win over Killenaule. This game was refereed by Victor Direen.
