March 25th was a most important day in the life of the parish of Mullinahone. Archbishop Dr. Dermot Clifford visited to administer confirmation to 45 girls and boys who were attending the three primary schools of the parish. The approach to the church looked extremely well with flags flying, new entrance gates and the old fashioned street lamps added a definite touch of class. Inside the interior of St. Michaels was simply magnificent. To keep us in touch with the ceremony those attending had a beautiful booklet produced by Rosaleen Walzer and her support team. Our thanks to both Rosie for the art work and Rose Byrne for the wonderful floral displays. Fr. McGrath who had worked extremely hard in preparing for the sacrament was assisted by two visiting priests, Fr. Philip O'Halloran and Fr. Joseph Murphy. Both the visiting priests had a family interest in the confirmation. Dr. Clifford made everybody, especially the children who were for confirmation, at ease. The boys and girls who were about to be confirmed and their companions in the lower classes both sang and read extremely well. This was alluded to by Dr. Clifford in his homily.
Special thanks were expressed to teachers Mr. James Cahill, Ms. Marie Meagher, Ms. Kate O'Connell and Ms. Marie Hahessy for conducting the choir, Kevin Hickey for accompaniment and Tommy O'Connor who prepared the church grounds. Such a wonderful occasion deserved to be recorded for posterity and it was by locals Donal O'Brien on film and Eamon Anglim on video / dvd. Confirmed were:

Wanted Bin Spy
We have been asked to highlight another problem which is beginning to raise its head in the area. I refer to the illegal dumping of household litter and rubbish in the dykes and ditches of the countryside. In some cases this refuse is even bagged and brought to the lesser used roadways in the parish by car. Among the roads that spring to mind are those in the Kylotlea area, the road from Ballyduggan to Killomery, the back road from O'Dwyer's Bridge to Lismolin and roads from Jamestown / Modeshill towards the county boundary. Such litter louts should be reported and prosecuted. We need the service of many "Bin Spies" to identify the culprits.
Lotto
The last draw took place on Monday, March 23rd. Numbers drawn were 12, 15, 18 and 20. No jackpot winner but seven match 3s sharing €175. Congratulations to Nellie Shelly, the Fennelly family, the Kerryman, Martin Keating, Johnson Lyons, Carmel Kennedy and Bridget Duggan. Next draw will be held on Monday, April 6th when the jackpot could be worth €4,850.
Renewing Green Flag
St. Michael N.S. are applying to have their green flag renewed in April. The theme for the second green flag is energy. The school is linked with Tesco in Clonmel who are also conserving energy. The green school committee have already organised a successful walk, cycle or car pool day to school. Used clothes collection will take place as will a mobile phone collection. Though not in the conserve energy league the school also collects old spectacles for use in Africa in conjunction with Spec Savers. If you can help out in the next few weeks drop some of these articles into the school. Remember the motto is Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

Juvenile Club
All teams from under eight to under sixteen are now in training. Details for all training sessions are available this week in the local news sheet. Saturday, 29th August has been set aside for our annual U12 intercounty hurling tournament. Once again this year we will be looking for families to host our teams from St. John's, Belfast , Kevin Lynches, Derry and Castleblaney from Monaghan. We will be in contact with families prior to the tournament. Best of luck to all our underage teams taking part in this year's championships. A special thanks to all the team mentors who give up their time to coach these teams.
Senior Club
Our Senior hurlers continued their campaign in the county league with a home game against Roscrea last Sunday. Because of work on our goal areas, the St. Patricks club allowed us the use of their field for the game for which we are very grateful. The game itself was very entertaining with a very young team losing narrowly. A positive aspect of the league this year has been the introduction of so many young players to senior hurling. Well done to all involved. Everybody in the club wishes a speedy recovery to AJ Cronin who picked up a serious knee injury during the game. Their next game is away to Holycross next Saturday. Following the game both teams were treated to refreshments by our ladies committee. Once again thanks to our ladies for providing the food. Meanwhile training continues on Tuesdays and Fridays for all adult players.
Monthly meeting
A senior club meeting will take place on Friday night at 9-30 sharp. It is important for all elected persons in the club to attend meetings
