For the second year in a row we offer congratulations to Jack Shelly on winning an Irish Underage Boxing Championship. On Saturday last Jack became Champion in the Boy Two 57kg division. In the final, in the National Stadium, Jack defeated his opponent (the Ulster Champion) from Belfast.
(If you are on a dial up connection it may take a couple of minutes to load, If you press the pause button it will load quicker and then press play when finished loading) Although his opponent was highly skilled and experienced, Jack forced the referee to stop the contest in the second round. Jack now becomes the first Irish Champion from the Slievenamon Boxing Club. When jack won the Boy One 48kg title last year, he was a member of the Callan Boxing Club. Much of the credit for Jacks latest win must go to the Club’s coaches and officers John Grace, Johnny Shelly and Michael Quirke.
